Wimbledon 2021 Grand Slam finals will be the first major sporting event allowed at full capacity since the Covid-19 outbreak. With a planned attendance of around 21,000 a day during week one and potentially up to 40,000 a day in week 2, it will be a return to normality.

Novak Djokovic and Simona Halep are the defending singles champions who go into battle from 28th June through until 11th July 2021 in the Grand Slam tournament. The 2021 Wimbledon Championships is the 134th edition and the 127th staging of the Ladies’ Singles Championship and the third Grand Slam tournament of the year.

After a superb performance from Djokovic who went on to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas of Greece in sets, 6-7 (6-8), 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 in Sunday’s head to head battle taking the Men’s French Open title, his victory was the second at Roland Garros, with his first in 2016 against Andy Murray.

Djokovic is certainly a frontrunner and is sure to be the bookie’s favourite to win this year’s Wimbledon Championship.

Unfortunately, things don’t look so promising for Simona Halep who had to retire from the French Open after the second round match against Angelique Kerber at the end of last month resulted in left calf injury. “Withdrawing from a Grand Slam goes against all my instincts and aspirations as an athlete”. “Unfortunately the tear in my left calf needs more time to recover and the timeline is just too short”, said Halep.

With 5 weeks to heal following the injury, we are hopeful to see Halep back on the courts at Wimbledon this season.

Andy Murray also missed the French Open as he heals and fights his way back to fitness for Wimbledon 2021 after hip resurfacing surgery in January last year.

“I want to win Wimbledon, and yes, I would like to be No 1 in the world.”, said Murray, speaking ahead of the event.
