Snowfall, trainer Aidan O’Brien’s 6/1 shot ridden by Frankie Dettori stormed ahead to win by 16 lengths in yesterday’s Cazoo Oaks.

The favourite to win, Santa Barbara, was held up in the rear and made a poor performance, finishing fifth.

“I’ve never ridden a Classic winner as easy as this one,” said 50-year-old Frankie.

“They went far too quickly and I had everything beat on the home straight. I was afraid of Santa Barbara, but as soon as I saw daylight in front of me, I thought ‘I’m going now’ and she took off, she went like a knife through butter.”

The huge win at 16 legs was an all-time record for the Oaks, whipping the previous 1983 best by Sun Princess.

The 50/1 outsider, Mystery Angel ridden by Ben Curtis lived up to her name, taking second place whilst Divinely, ridden by Seamie Heffernan and also trained by Aidan O’Brien came in third.
